A couple days ago, I was writing about my Californian media diet and reminiscing about my days as a correspondent for the San Francisco Chronicle in Paris. And then my former editor sent me, and his former posse of correspondents, this sad piece of news. While I don’t put myself in the same category as some of the illustrious former members of the Chronicle Foreign Service mentioned in this post, I do feel like all of us are a bunch of old dinosaurs on a fast track to oblivion. I would like to think that the paper’s faithful readers will also feel something valuable is being lost. From now on, they can look forward to a bland stream of wire stories for their news about the world. Not awful maybe, but nothing special to their paper.
