Harry Potter mania

Depuis trois mois, toute la famille est prise dans une sorte de folie d'Harry Potter, un peu à retardement. Tout a commencé quand Emmanuel a demandé à ses grands-parents de lui offrir les premiers bouquins pour Noël, puis que ses copains ont continué la série pour son anniversaire. Trois mois plus tard, il attaque le septième et dernier livre. Autant dire qu'il est accro. Du coup, EJ s'est mis à lire les livres dès qu'Emmanuel les posait. Voulant savoir de quoi il retournait (déjà que j'ai du mal à suivre les nombreuses conversations autour de Star Wars car je n'ai jamais vu tous les épisodes sans interruption, j'étais déterminée à ce que la même chose ne se reproduise pas avec Harry Potter), j'ai suivi le mouvement. Il n'est donc pas rare que trois d'entre nous soient plongés en même temps dans un épisode différent. Gabriel suit un peu ce qui se passe par osmose. On aura peut-être loupé la frénésie et l'attente de chaque nouveau livre vu qu'on a commencé sur le tard alors que tous les livres étaient déjà parus. Mais c'est amusant de partager cette lecture en famille. Je ne trouve pas l'écriture en elle-même transcendante, mais il faut dire que l'histoire est assez palpitante.


For the last three months, the whole family has been seized by a sort of belated Harry Potter madness. It all started when Emmanuel asked his grandparents for the first three books for Christmas. Then his friends gave him the rest of the series for his birthday. Three months later, he just started the 7th and last book. We might as well say that he is hooked. EJ started picking up the books as quickly as Emmanuel would put them down. A little later, I got into it too so that I would not feel completely out of it as I do with Star Wars. Having never watched any Star Wars episode in full without interruption, I am a bit hazy about a lot of details and have a hard time following some conversations. I was determined that the same thing would not happen with Harry Potter. It is not uncommon to have the three of us reading a different book and trading notes about the plot. By osmosis, Gabriel is getting sucked in too. We might have missed the original Harry Potter frenzy and the tortured wait for the next book, getting into the act so late. But it is fun sharing this reading together as a family. On the whole, I don't find the writing that exceptional, but the story is sure keeping us glued to the page.
