The last days of l'haricot

L’haricot (the bean) has been a lifesaver for the last 8 months. It was our kitchen and dining room, a place for the boys to do homework and take their bath while we were cooking dinner. During the long remodel, we were still able to accommodate friends and family who visited us here. A couple weeks ago, Sue and Nancy (a faithful reader of the blog if there ever was one) were the last two official guests to stay in the haricot. It was fitting as they are both “repeat customers” who have visited several times in the past four years. I took this picture on the morning they took off with those two umbrellas they left us. It looks a bit desolate. But the haricot is soon going to be home to an eager renter (we are having to vacate the premises a few days before we meant to) who will use it until the fall, and then to a young student who is a distant friend of the family. Before it is ready, there is a lot of emptying and cleaning up to do. That will be our job this week.
