A long social week-end
This week-end was the longest of many long week-ends in May (May 1 is our Labor Day, we celebrate the end of WWII on May 8, this week-end was the religious holiday of the Ascension and next week is Whit Monday which technically takes us into June). Each occasion turns into a three-day week-end. But the Ascension week-end was a small vacation in its own right, stretching from Tuesday night for the boys all the way to this Sunday. Instead of going away, we stayed in
The boys were social bees as well, having friends over or going over to friends for sleepovers. It was nice to have different mixes of kids and assorted parents coming through all week-end long. With our kitchen finally in order, it is a pleasure to receive people whether for a quick coffee or for a full-length meal. And you know what that means for the French, two or three hours at the table is nothing to us. We even managed a picnic with a couple of other families, but we unfortunately chose a rainy time. Another satisfaction this week-end was going through more closets, cleaning up layers of dust and making piles of stuff to give away. Particularly those clothes one hangs on onto even though one has never worn them in this century. A very gratifying activity!
Now the week-end is winding down, but we still have one fun item on our agenda. They are going out to a movie with their old babysitter who has become more of a friend and wanted to hang out with them. While they are seeing Night at the Museum, I will sneak in the latest Almodovar. We will then reconvene for dinner at home, without EJ who is working tonight. This leisurely life cannot go on for ever...
