Les Kelloucq en voyage

Beyond the périphérique

The sad truth is that I hardly ever get outside of Paris. Even this week when I had six work events/meetings to attend, 4 of them were right inside the 2nd arrondissement! That's a bit exceptionnal, but still the reality is that I don't get out much. So this morning, I was happy to have a meeting out of town. By 9 a.m. I was getting in the car of the photographer accompanying me on the job - somebody I enjoy working with, but had not seen in quite a while. We were on our way to a small town near Versailles.

Being stuck in traffic was not that much fun and made me appreciate my hyper-urban environment where I walk, bike or ride public transportation everywhere. But then we got to the place, did the interview and were out and about shooting pictures in the countryside. There were even horses, large fields and a babbling brook. And it felt like a different country, not like we were just maybe 20 kilometers outside Paris. It is bizarre, but I do feel like a foreign tourist when I get out to the areas around Paris. I have only a vague feeling of where towns are compared to one another, I am completely out of context. Makes me feel like a bit of an idiot, frankly.

Then we got back to Paris and Stéphane dropped me off near Châtelet. As I was walking by the gardening shops on Quai de la Mégisserie, I felt a sudden impulse to get flowers. I grabbed some cyclamens which will plant in the boys' window tomorrow. This is our version of a garden and greenery!
