Camping in the rain again

Apparently, Cub Scouts like their tradition. When the Paris troop goes on its annual spring campout in Picardy, it usually rains. It rained last year, it rained this year. The worse of the rain came while we were preparing dinner on Saturday night, a very nice “pot au feu” cooked on a bed of coals that EJ orchestrated. Despite all the impeccable planning, the heavy rain managed to drown out the fire before everybody’s dinner was cooked. Some of the troop had to finish cooking on gas stoves. We actually had to move the fire to another area after the downpour because the whole area looked like a field of mud. The rain stopped enough for us to have s'mores and skits by the kids.

It really makes you wonder why reasonably smart people do subject themselves to this kind of treatment, traipsing in the mud and getting drenched eating outdoors, trying to pretend we have not forgotten our prehistoric roots. Anyways, we had fun.
The sound of the rain on a tent, while curled up in a warm sleeping bag, is very soothing. But I am happy to sleep in a normal bed tonight. Here is someone you is rarely pictured on this blog because she is usually holding the camera...
