Heading out of town

This past week has been busy with more improvement projects. EJ is still finishing up some details in the kitchen, but mostly we needed to paint the boys’ room and the hallway. Their bedroom had not been painted in over 10 years before Emmanuel was born and, not surprisingly, it was showing some signs of wear and tear. Since EJ handles most of that type of work, I was happy to contribute this time. Three coats of paint later, the room is bright yellow and red, the colors the boys requested. The future will prove if they are a bit too bright. The hallway also looks 100% better with a fresh coat of paint; it really spruces things up to cover up the traces of daily living, the knocks and bangs and experiments with markers on the walls.

Boxes are also piling up in the boys’ room now. Since we are renting our apartment to a family of four – a friend of Emmanuel’s actually–, we needed to get more stuff out of here than last time (all the toys, books, extra clothes, some fragile kitchenware). We will be storing those at my parents’ during our time away.

In a couple hours, we are heading down to my hometown to reunite with the guys and my parents and then driving straight to the region of Berry where we have rented a roulotte for a week. No computers, no traffic, no worries, just the slow pace of the horse, camping and fishing by rivers, reading and, I would imagine, early bedtimes : that’s the plan.

Re:

There are different outfits in various regions. As far as I know, you have to drive your own roulotte which was not a problem for us as we all had experience with horses, and particularly my dad with horse-drawn contraptions. But it must not be easy for people with no experience. I will be posting photos shortly.
