L'immeuble fout le camp/Changes in the building
Les enfants sont une espèce en voie de disparition dans notre immeuble. Il y a encore 3 ou 4 ans, il y eut jusqu'à huit enfants, des garçons et des filles tous en-dessous de 10 ans. Mais ce matin, l'immeuble a encore perdu un môme avec le départ de la petite fille d'en dessous qui déménage dans le sud de la France avec sa maman. Elle avait un an quand nous sommes arrivés dans l'immeuble (sans enfant à l’époque), elle est maintenant au collège. Les enfants sont une bonne mesure pour évaluer le temps qui passe. Nos voisins de palier avaient des enfants avec qui Emmanuel et Gabriel jouaient constamment jusqu'à leur départ dans un autre quartier de Paris. Le recensement actuel fait état de deux garçons et deux filles, une plus jeune que Gabriel et une plus âgée qu’Emmanuel. Franchement, ça change l'ambiance et pas dans le bon sens.
Children are a threatened species in our building. Three or four years ago, there were up to 8 kids, boys and girls all under the age of 10. This morning, the number went down again when the young girl downstairs came to say good-bye. She is moving to the south of France with her mom. She was one year old when we moved in and she is now in junior high. Kids are such a good way to measure the passing of time. Our former neighbors across the landing had a boy and a girl, Emmanuel and the boy were particularly close for the several years until they moved to another part of Paris. Today, the census stands at two boys and two girls. Sadly, this is changing the atmosphere in the building and not in a happy way.
